grammar lesson #1
I know you've been learning English for years but you are still insecure about just using English.
So many of you email or DM me and in your messages, I can usually find a variation of these:
“my English is not as good as yours”
“forgive me if I made any mistakes”
”my grammar isn’t so good”
“I hope you understand my message”
“sorry for my (bad) English”
I am always shocked.
Why do you think I wouldn’t be able to understand your message, even if there are mistakes in it?
Why are you judging your English so harshly that you decided to tell me your English is bad?
Then, the teacher in me remembers:
People are still insecure about their English, Laura. Not everyone is like you.
You probably follow me because, at some point, my English caught your attention. You realized I was Polish and there I was, on the Internet, using English wherever & whenever I could.
If you didn’t know: I graduated top of my class in 2019 and I hold a Master’s Degree in English Language and Linguistics. I specialize in Syntax, which, very broadly speaking, is grammar.
My BA Dissertation was about the Subjunctive in French, English and Polish. My Master’s Thesis focused on the syntax of coordinated subjects in Polish and Slavic languages.
I made it into a PhD program in Linguistics in London, but decided not to go pursue it due to personal reasons (my Mother had just passed away). I was going to work on the Syntax of Polish gender marking inside the Subject-Verb Agreement processes.
If you’re still reading this and you haven’t rolled your eyes at the areas of my research, that means you’re a language nerd, like me. Yay!
And here we are, talking about English grammar.
I know you want to stop thinking about grammar and just use English.
I know you want to unlearn all the rules that don't make sense and just use English.
I know that you're sick and tired of language courses that don't work, lessons that are boring and explanations that you don't understand.
You just want to use English.
And to never be blocked again.
I will help you do that.
grammar lesson #1
In this video, I explain the difference between the two most confusing tenses: Present Perfect and Past Simple.
They have different structures, use different time markers, and sometimes, they can be used in the same context, even though most resources only teach you their distinct, and not common, contexts of usage (which is not a complete grammar explanation).
I’m sharing this video with you because all of my students find my way of teaching tenses the most effective and easiest to understand explanation they have ever heard.
This video will help.
In my next post, I’ll share another grammar video with you.
I really love teaching grammar.
It is something I was born to do, and that's what my students notice, too.
I'd love for you to experience that, too.

“Laura is the first English teacher that taught me in a way that was suited to what I was interested in and in a way that got me interested in things I’d been avoiding, like grammar or language structures. Laura made me realize how easy they are and she used materials that were perfect for me, including songs and movies. Thanks to sessions with Laura I was able to pass my CAE exam and I got accepted into the university of my dreams.”
