The story of my American accent & tips on how to master the American accent and speak like a native
It's time to share the story of my American accent.
I'm bilingual - English is my second language - and so I want to tell you how I mastered the American accent in English.
In this video, I'm sharing a few tips on how you can master the American accent and speak English like a native speaker. I'm also answering a few of the most frequently asked questions, including 'why do you live in London and still speak with the American accent?'
In my American accent lessons, trainings and courses, I give you tips to sound like an American because this is the accent I know best and have trained my students in (the General American/Standard American Accent).
I also know quite a lot about RP/Standard British Accent, which is a result of me studying it at uni quite extensively.
I am an American Accent Teacher.
My background is in Phonetics, Phonology, and Syntax, which means that I have an in-depth knowledge of sound systems of world languages. That's why, as a bilingual language mentor and a american accent coach, I can help students from all over the world reduce their accent in English, or in Polish - I know how sounds work and how to train and practice your pronunciation to sound more like a native speaker.
How to Master the American Accent 🎤
1️⃣ Practice English Speaking Daily
The best way to improve your spoken English is by speaking every day. Even if you don’t have a conversation partner, you can practice by reading aloud, shadowing native speakers, or recording yourself speaking in English.
2️⃣ Focus on Pronunciation & Intonation
Mastering the American accent isn’t just about learning sounds—it’s also about rhythm, stress, and intonation. Pay attention to how native speakers stress syllables, use contractions, and connect words when they speak.
3️⃣ Get a Pronunciation Teacher
Having a coach or tutor who understands phonetics and accent training can make a huge difference. A good pronunciation teacher can identify your problem areas and give you targeted exercises to improve your accent.
4️⃣ Find Your Motivation & Stay Consistent
Learning an accent takes time, and there will be moments when you feel frustrated. But if you stay committed and focus on your "why", you’ll see progress. Whether it’s for work, studies, or confidence, remembering your goal will keep you motivated.
5️⃣ Never Stop Practicing
Even after reaching fluency, it’s important to keep practicing. Listen to American speakers, have conversations in English, and keep challenging yourself. Your accent will only improve if you continue using it!
